DISTANCE
Through this rug, I explored the topic of distance; how it separates us, ties us, and its unpredictable effect on our lives and relationships. Translating these ideas into weaving has a natural ease about it. Our lives are woven in and out of other’s lives, people stay with us, make untold changes to our story, then move on and the cycle is repeated. Being in a relationship for four years, separated by five states, I am present and aware of the wearing and hardship that distance can bring. I chose a complicated twill structure to show the uncertainty of each diamond, constantly changing and evolving, as is the state of my mind, like land mapping. Its unpredictability is what keeps me moving, the state of pursuing my artistic practice and development.
handwoven, linen and wool.
