SPACES
Through this rug, I intended to work off the concept of piecing back together my own memories. There are so many areas that are unclear when I try to reflect back to my past, and often times I find myself caught in a memory, asking my mother to clarify. My grandmother was a great artistic influence in my life, and I have never forgotten her when I work. She was a painter, which I assume is why I have thrived painting. I decided to paint my warp for this very reason. I love the process of it and how intuitive I can be while making, and yet the loom make it precise again. I chose a diamond twill structure to conceptualize the idea of memory, getting closer and closer and further away with time.
hand woven, warp painted, wool and linen, 2016.
